Jungnang-gu Activates 'Novel Coronavirus Emergency Surveillance System'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) has taken active measures to respond to the 'novel coronavirus'.

The district stated that it is focusing on spreading easily practicable infection prevention guidelines under the keywords 'Wash', 'Cover', and 'Contact'.

Following the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's upgrade of the infectious disease crisis alert level from 'Caution' to 'Warning' on the 28th, Jungnang-gu formed and is operating the Jungnang-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, composed of nine teams including the epidemiological investigation team and the life safety support team, with the mayor as the head, to activate an emergency monitoring system to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

In addition, the 'Health Center Screening Clinic' installed outside the first floor of the public health center is being operated 24 hours a day for rapid response such as epidemiological investigations in case of suspected patients.

Furthermore, facilities frequently visited by residents such as the district office, community centers, and libraries are stocked with quarantine supplies like masks and hand sanitizers to thoroughly prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Events with large attendance, such as Friday concerts and Jungnang Masil, were canceled in advance to ensure the safety of residents.

Social media, a representative communication channel in modern society, is also being utilized. The district produced and distributed its own promotional materials containing infection prevention guidelines such as handwashing and mask-wearing to about 25,000 users on blogs, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, urging them to report to the health center if symptoms appear.

Promotion through video media is also active. The district used 24 IPTV units, one multi-vision screen, and three elevator electronic boards to provide virus prevention information to users of the district office, community centers, and Myeonmok Health Branch.

The district website's notice board displays not only infection prevention guidelines but also a 'Frequently Asked Questions (F&Q)' section composed of highly asked virus-related questions prepared by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prevent misinformation about the virus. Offline promotions such as banners and posters are also being vigorously conducted.

Additionally, departments handling customer service and field visits are required to wear masks to fully prevent secondary infections.

Moreover, using the Jungnang-gu disinfection task force, intensive sterilization and disinfection will be conducted in vulnerable areas such as local daycare centers and senior citizen centers.

Furthermore, on the 29th at 5 p.m., an emergency countermeasure meeting on the novel coronavirus was held at the planning situation room with all department heads to ensure the safety of residents through phased and customized responses.

Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu said, "Since infectious diseases require proactive responses, we are making all-out efforts to prevent their spread," and added, "If you have a fever or respiratory symptoms (runny nose, cough, etc.), please report first to the Jungnang-gu Health Center (☏2094-0800) or the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention call center (☏1339)."
