[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus announced on the 29th that it held a launch ceremony and ski camp attended by about 100 people, including newly selected mentees and mentors of the 'Dudream U+ Magic Account.'
Hosted by LG Uplus and organized by the Korea Disabled Rehabilitation Association, the Dudream U+ Magic Account, launched in 2010, is a social contribution activity that provides scholarships to about 150 youths from disabled families each year. Youths from disabled families and LG Uplus employees are paired one-on-one, and when the youth's family deposits 20,000 KRW monthly into the Dudream U+ Magic Account, LG Uplus employees add 20,000 KRW, and LG Uplus contributes 60,000 KRW. In this way, 100,000 KRW is accumulated monthly for five years, totaling over 6 million KRW, which supports the youth's college entrance fees or job preparation funds.
In addition to scholarships, LG Uplus employees also provide one-on-one mentoring to youths through the U+ Magic Account. Various relationship-building programs such as leisure experiences and camps are conducted to support the emotional growth of the youths.
At the 2020 launch ceremony of the Dudream U+ Magic Account held at the LG Uplus Yongsan headquarters on the day, newly selected first-year middle school mentees and employee mentors had their first meeting, signed and read pledges. Afterwards, they visited the U+ 5G and Smart Home Experience Center located on the first floor of the headquarters with their parents. Participants will continue mentoring ski camp at Gangchon Elysian Ski Resort for a 2-night, 3-day schedule.
Park Hyung-il, Executive Vice President and CRO of LG Uplus, said, "We send encouragement to youths taking strong steps toward the future," adding, "We hope they grow into key talents who contribute not only to their personal development but also to the local community."
Since 2010, LG Uplus and the Korea Disabled Rehabilitation Association have selected a total of 370 youths from disabled families and carried out the Dudream U+ Magic Account activities. Including 30 high school graduates this year, a total of 220 graduates have been produced so far, and 1.386 billion KRW has been paid out as graduation scholarships.
