[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small and Medium Business Corporation announced on the 29th that they held a signing ceremony for the designation of the government's first-ever 'E-commerce Specialized Universities' this year.

The event took place at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, with about 50 attendees including Kim Hak-do, Vice Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Jo Jeong-gwon, Acting President of the Small and Medium Business Corporation, and presidents of seven e-commerce specialized universities. Starting with this agreement signing and designation certificate awarding ceremony, they plan to collaborate with seven universities this year to train 350 specialized personnel.

The universities designated as E-commerce Specialized Universities are Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology, Korea University, Mokpo National University, Paichai University, Soongsil University, Jeonbuk National University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. The dedicated e-commerce specialized university courses are organized as regular courses worth 3 credits per semester. They operate by combining theory and practice, including education on global platforms and social network services (SNS), and practical sales training matching students with online export specialized companies.

Kim Hak-do, Vice Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, "We agreed on the need to actively establish a system to nurture e-commerce specialized personnel centered on university students who are familiar with the latest online content and have foreign language skills," adding, "We will continuously expand e-commerce specialized universities and curricula to lay the foundation for becoming the world's top online export powerhouse."

Jo Jeong-gwon, Acting President of the Small and Medium Business Corporation, stated, "The younger generation, familiar with mobile, will become the main players leading new consumption in the e-commerce market," and added, "The Small and Medium Business Corporation will take the lead in nurturing online export experts who will lead the global e-commerce market."
