Seoul City Provides 500,000 KRW Support for Eco-Friendly Boiler Replacement Costs to Low-Income Households

Expansion to 100,000 Eligible Units
Heating Cost Savings of 130,000 Won Possible

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 29th that it will increase subsidies for low-income households from 200,000 won to 500,000 won when replacing old boilers with eco-friendly condensing (residential low-NOx) boilers.

The support target will also be expanded from 50,000 units to 100,000 units. Starting this year, replacement costs will be supported not only for residential use but also for commercial facilities such as daycare centers, senior centers, dormitories, and study rooms. Additionally, the subsidy recipient will be changed from the purchaser to the supplier, and the application process will be shifted from applying after boiler installation to applying before installation, making it easier to apply for subsidies.

However, since eco-friendly condensing boilers generate condensate water, installation may be restricted in places where condensate drainage piping cannot be installed, so prior consultation is required. Currently, gas boilers certified with the Environmental Mark include Kyungdong Navien, Kiturami, Daesung Celtic Energy, Rinnai Korea, Lotte Aluminum Industrial Headquarters, and Altoen Daewoo.

The city explained, "Using eco-friendly condensing boilers can save about 130,000 won in heating costs."
