[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Motor Group will provide humanitarian aid worth 2.5 billion KRW to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in China and support recovery efforts.


On the 28th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it will deliver medical supplies and donations worth 15 million yuan (approximately 2.53 billion KRW) to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus recently occurring in China and to assist the rapid recovery of residents in severely affected areas.


First, Hyundai Motor Group plans to provide medical supplies worth 5 million yuan (approximately 840 million KRW), including protective suits, masks, goggles, and personal protective equipment, to Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.


In addition, it will donate 10 million yuan (approximately 1.69 billion KRW) to be used for supporting local medical facilities and personnel to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

This fund to support victims of the novel coronavirus in China is being prepared through cooperation between Hyundai Motor Group and its affiliates in China. Hyundai Motor Group will contribute 5 million yuan, and major local affiliates including Hyundai Motor Group China, Beijing Hyundai, Dongfeng Yueda Kia, Sichuan Hyundai, Beijing Hyundai Motor Finance Co., Ltd., Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Wia, and Hyundai Transys will provide a total of 10 million yuan.


A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "We decided on this support to help quickly overcome the novel coronavirus situation in China," adding, "We will continue to join efforts in humanitarian aid within the international community."


Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group has actively participated in overseas large-scale disaster relief activities, including donations and essential goods support, as well as local relief efforts, for major disasters such as the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake in China, the 2009 Haiti Earthquake, the 2010 Chile Earthquake, the 2011 US Tornado, the 2013 Philippine Typhoon, the 2017 Peru and Colombia heavy rains, and the 2018 Laos floods and Indonesia earthquakes and tsunamis.
