"A Serious Matter That Must Be Treated as a Major Crime"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 28th, ahead of the April 15 general election, the Bareunmirae Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for the case of Won Jong-geon (27), who was recruited by the Democratic Party but returned his recruitment qualification and announced he would not run in the election just one day after Me Too allegations surfaced. The party stated, “Won has shamelessly made statements such as ‘Feminism is the spirit of the times’ without hesitation,” and questioned, “From former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, a core figure of the pro-Moon faction, to disposable recruited talents, how can they be so hypocritical?”
Kim Jeong-hwa, spokesperson for the Bareunmirae Party, said in a statement that day, “Won should quietly leave, but he kept talking about ‘a woman he once loved’ until the end,” and added, “If the former girlfriend’s claim that she was continuously treated as a sexual object is true, this is a serious matter that should be dealt with as a grave crime involving assault and sexual violence.”
He continued, “We can only be speechless at the Democratic Party’s consistent standard for talents,” and sharply criticized, “The DNA of the Democratic Party is ‘Geot-ba-sok-sseok’ (appearing upright on the outside but rotten inside).”
He further stated, “The Democratic Party’s talent (人災, meaning ‘human disaster’) Won must sincerely apologize to the victim and receive appropriate punishment,” adding, “Returning the recruitment is not the end.”
Spokesperson Kim said, “The Democratic Party, which only hurts socially vulnerable people, should bow its head, apologize to the public, and promise to prevent recurrence,” emphasizing, “The victim’s tears and courage must not be in vain.”
