Ban Ki-moon and Jim Rogers Gathered Together... Discussing Plans for DMZ Peace Zone

Peace and economic experts from around the world gather in one place to seek practical measures for advancing a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

On the 27th, Gangwon Province and the 2018 PyeongChang Foundation announced, "The 2020 PyeongChang Peace Forum (PPF) will be held for three days from February 9 to 11 at the Alpensia Resort in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province, to coincide with the 2nd anniversary of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics."

Now in its second year, the PyeongChang Peace Forum is a global forum hosted mainly by world leaders, scholars, experts, and civil society involved in peace and international cooperation, as well as sports and sustainable development. Attendees include former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, and investment industry magnate Jim Rogers, Chairman of Rogers Holdings.

This year, world leaders and peace experts gather in Gangwon Province, the only divided province in the world, under the theme "Action Plan: End the Korean War," to review and discuss concrete practical measures for transitioning beyond division to a historic peace regime.

The core agenda consists of four major topics: sports, economy, the DMZ peace zone, and the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). In particular, since peace and trust between the two Koreas are closely linked to regional peace and stability and the basic survival rights of residents, the forum will focus intensively on concrete practical measures for peace, such as the new economic development plan for the Korean Peninsula and the international peace zone of the DMZ.

Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon Province, said, "Given the recent stalemate in North Korea-US talks and ongoing sanctions against North Korea, the difficult conditions persist," adding, "The historic efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula, which sprouted from the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, must continue without interruption."

He continued, "Through this 2020 PyeongChang Peace Forum, we will strive to create a platform for discussion that can produce concrete and practical measures that can substantially contribute to the peace-building process on the Korean Peninsula and garner international support for these efforts."
