[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus has become the first in Korea to obtain the international standard information security certification (ISO) in the 5G-related field.

On the 28th, LG Uplus announced that it received the international standard information security certification 'ISO27001' for the information security management system for base station operation management, a core area of the 5G network, from Norway's 'DNV-GL,' a global information security management certification body. Among domestic operators providing 5G services, LG Uplus is the first to acquire this certification.

ISO 27001 is an international standard information security certification established by ISO and is regarded as the most prestigious certification in the field of information security. Certification is granted only after passing an audit based on 114 management criteria across 14 areas through on-site inspections.

Since June last year, LG Uplus established the scope and audit plan for certification and conducted on-site inspections from October through consultations with DNV-GL. It verified compliance in all areas including information security policies for 5G base station operation management, physical and environmental security, access control, and communication security.

Through this, it is expected to secure trust in information security and security response systems, which are major concerns for customers using 5G services. Since last year, network and security employees have redefined information security regulations and guidelines, conducted audits and consulting with external professional organizations, and made various investments to strengthen security.

Lee Hyuk-joo, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President of LG Uplus, said, "We will manage more thoroughly so that customers can use our services with confidence not only in the best quality but also in terms of information security."
