[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will invest 5.788 billion KRW this year to carry out seven senior citizen part-time job projects.
On the 28th, Seongnam City announced that among the seven projects, participants for two fields?senior center meal helpers and safety keepers?will be selected first.
Meal helpers will be assigned one to two people at each of the 385 senior centers in the area by the 31st. Participants will work 2 hours and 30 minutes per day, 42 hours per month, and receive a monthly compensation of 430,500 KRW.
Safety keepers will be responsible for managing the opening and closing of senior center doors to prevent safety accidents and will be required to check facilities such as gas and electricity. They will receive a monthly compensation of 50,000 KRW.
The other five part-time job fields include environmental maintenance (2,289 people), clean park keepers (300 people), welfare helpers (191 people), silver no-smoking zone keepers (97 people), and pet dog guidance (23 people).
On the 30th, the city will hold a project briefing session and special hygiene and safety education lecture for seniors selected as meal helpers and safety keepers at the city hall Onnuri Hall.
In addition to these projects, the city will invest 18.249 billion KRW (including 10.493 billion KRW from national and provincial funds) to carry out the 'Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project' involving 5,150 participants.
A city official explained, "These projects are promoted to support a vibrant old age for seniors with working ability and to provide opportunities to earn pocket money."
