[Asia Economy Reporter Osangdo] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has confirmed the relocation of five affiliated organizations remaining in Seoul to Sejong City. However, there are concerns that work efficiency may decline as frequent business trips to Seoul are expected due to the nature of these organizations' tasks even after the move to Sejong City.

According to the Ministry on the 27th, the organizations relocating to Sejong City this time include the affiliated Resident Registration Number Change Committee and temporary internal organizations within the ministry: the Administrative Service Integration Promotion Team, Government Innovation Strategy Promotion Team, Resident Autonomy-type Public Service Promotion Team, and Past Affairs-related Work Support Team. The Next-generation Local Tax Revenue Informatization Promotion Team, one of the six additional organizations considered for relocation, was excluded.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety organizations moving to Sejong this time were originally excluded from relocation due to the nature of their work. Even after the ministry headquarters, which was located in the Government Complex Seoul in February last year, moved to Sejong City, these organizations remained in Seoul.

However, the situation changed after the Office for Government Policy Coordination announced the 'Sejong-centered work settlement plan' in May last year, which included closing the offices of ministers and vice ministers in Seoul and banning business trips to Seoul for internal reporting and meetings. These organizations were then included in the relocation target.

First, the Resident Registration Number Change Committee decided to relocate by May. The other organizations also confirmed their relocation by the first half of this year and received ministerial approval at the end of last year.

The number of employees moving to Sejong City is estimated to be around 100. All five organizations plan to lease private buildings currently under construction near the Ministry of the Interior and Safety annex.

The Next-generation Local Tax Revenue Informatization Promotion Team, which was also considered for relocation, will remain in Seoul due to the concentration of informatization-related work in the metropolitan area. This team is responsible for local tax payment services and the integration of tax administration systems. However, it is scheduled to move from the Government Complex Seoul to the Korea Local Information Development Institute in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu.
