[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Seon-gang] Shin Il-seop, CEO of the Gwangju Welfare Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, recently expressed his intention to resign amid the controversy over conflicts among the foundation’s executives and staff.
According to Gwangju City on the 27th, CEO Shin met with Mayor Lee Yong-seop, the chairman of the foundation, on the 23rd and stated that although he had intended to unite capabilities to innovate the foundation’s operations, an unexpected internal scandal within the foundation has caused a social uproar. To avoid causing further concern both inside and outside Gwangju City and the foundation, he expressed his decision to resign.
Accordingly, Mayor Lee Yong-seop is reportedly planning to accept CEO Shin’s resignation letter.
A Gwangju City official stated, “CEO Shin took responsibility for managing the foundation by leveraging his expertise and experience in social welfare, but due to controversies arising from inappropriate conduct by subordinate employees, his lifelong reputation as a scholar and educator has been tarnished. He did not want to burden Mayor Lee Yong-seop and the foundation, so he chose to step down.”
Meanwhile, Gwangju City plans to use this incident as an opportunity to innovate the Gwangju Welfare Foundation and establish new leadership in preparation for the establishment of the Gwangju Social Service Agency in July. Furthermore, the city will implement rigorous management and supervision to strengthen work discipline at affiliated and funded institutions.
