Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Wins Contract for Nuclear Power Plant Equipment Supply Project in Romania

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Wins Contract for Nuclear Power Plant Equipment Supply Project in Romania Romania Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant (Unit 1 on the right)

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on the 27th that it has been selected as the final supplier in the international open competitive bidding for the 'Supply of In-Core Nuclear Instrumentation Amplifiers and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Filters for Cernavod? Nuclear Power Plant,' ordered by Romania's Nuclear Power Company (SNN) with a contract value of approximately 1 billion KRW.

This achievement marks the first case where KHNP has successfully localized products through collaborative research and development with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and expanded into overseas markets.

The Cernavod? Nuclear Power Plant is a facility operating in the eastern region of Romania and is a heavy water reactor type, similar to Korea's Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant.

The items in question are scheduled to be used in units 1 and 2 of the Cernavod? Nuclear Power Plant. The design and manufacturing of the equipment are handled by the domestic SME Realgain, while KHNP is responsible for quality control and equipment verification.

These items were localized by KHNP in collaboration with SMEs as a research project and have been used in Wolsong units 1 through 4, with their performance and safety verified.

Since these items require periodic replacement, continuous supply is expected in the future. Additionally, this is anticipated to have a positive impact on the selection of contractors for projects KHNP is preparing to participate in Romania, such as tritium removal facilities and radioactive waste storage tank construction.

Jaehoon Jung, President of KHNP, stated, "Building on this achievement, we expect to achieve additional successes in the United States, Eastern Europe, and East Asia," adding, "In particular, we will actively support technology development and overseas market expansion to enable more SMEs to enter foreign markets."
