[Weather] "Prepare Your Umbrella"... Last Day of Seollal Holiday, Cloudy and Rain Nationwide [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] On the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the 27th, the whole country is expected to be mostly cloudy with rain in most areas.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 26th, from that day until the 28th, 30 to 80 mm of rain will fall in Gangwon Yeongdong, the eastern coast of Gyeongsang, and Jeju Island. In the mountainous areas of Jeju Island, some places are expected to receive more than 150 mm of heavy rain.

From the 27th to the 28th, 20 to 60 mm of rain will fall in Gyeongsang Province and Ulleungdo and Dokdo, 10 to 40 mm in Jeolla Province, and 5 to 20 mm in the central region excluding Gangwon Yeongdong.

There will also be snowfall in some areas. From the 26th to the 28th, 5 to 30 cm of snow is expected in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, 1 to 5 cm in the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, and around 1 cm in the inland areas of Gangwon.

Visibility will be reduced in areas with rain or snow, and many roads will be slippery due to ice, so special caution is required for traffic safety. Attention should also be paid to the management of facilities such as retaining walls and vinyl greenhouses to prevent collapse.

The morning low temperature is forecast to be between 1 and 9 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high temperature between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius. Morning temperatures will be about 10 degrees higher than the average for this time of year, and daytime temperatures will also be 3 to 6 degrees higher, making it mild. Fine dust levels are expected to be 'good' across all regions.

Sea waves will reach heights of 1.0 to 2.5 meters in the West Sea nearshore, 2.0 to 5.5 meters in the South Sea nearshore, and 1.5 to 6.0 meters in the East Sea nearshore. Offshore wave heights are forecast to be 1.0 to 4.0 meters in the West Sea and 2.0 to 6.0 meters in the South and East Seas. Except for some parts of the West Sea, strong winds and high waves will occur across all seas, so special caution is required to prevent maritime accidents.

From the night of the 26th to the 28th, airports such as Yangyang, Pohang, Ulsan, Gimhae, Sacheon, and Jeju may experience disruptions in operations due to strong winds and rain, so it is necessary to check flight information in advance.
