[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City announced on the 26th that it will provide subsidies for converting old children's school transportation vehicles, which emit a large amount of pollutants, to LPG vehicles.
The city plans to invest 2.05 billion KRW in project funds, an increase of 1.67 billion KRW from the previous year, to support subsidies for 410 children's school transportation LPG vehicles.
To receive support, owners must scrap (including export cancellation) children's school transportation vehicles registered before December 31, 2011 (small diesel vehicles with 15 seats or fewer) and purchase a new LPG vehicle for the same purpose. A subsidy of 5 million KRW per vehicle will be provided to owners who have completed the relevant permits and approvals for children's school transportation vehicles.
The city will accept applications until the 14th of next month and plans to prioritize vehicles with private paid transportation permits for support.
However, applicants who have already received or wish to receive support for early scrapping or installation of emission reduction devices (except when the mandatory operation period has passed) will be restricted from receiving this subsidy.
Owners of children's school transportation vehicles who wish to apply should complete the application form including required documents and submit it in person or by registered mail to the Air Quality Conservation Division of Incheon City.
An Incheon City official stated, "We are actively encouraging the conversion of children's school transportation vehicles to LPG vehicles through subsidy support to protect children's health and contribute to reducing fine dust."
