[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] A fire broke out in a house in Haenam used as accommodation for foreign workers, resulting in the deaths of three Thai workers.
According to the Jeonnam Haenam Fire Station on the 25th, the fire occurred at around 3:37 PM at a single-story house in Hyeonsan-myeon, Haenam-gun, where foreign workers reside.
Upon the fire outbreak, the fire authorities dispatched 10 fire trucks and 25 119 rescue personnel to the scene and extinguished the fire within about 40 minutes.
After extinguishing the fire, the fire authorities found two people dead in the bathroom and one person dead in the living room inside the accommodation. All of the deceased foreigners were confirmed to be in their mid-30s, consisting of two males and one female.
The location of the fire was being used as accommodation for foreign workers operated by a nearby Kim factory, and the deceased workers were reported to have stayed there since the afternoon of the 21st.
A neighboring resident said, "There were sounds of fighting since the morning, but no explosion was heard at the time of the fire."
The police are focusing on the possibility of arson, controlling the scene, identifying the deceased workers, and investigating the exact cause of the fire by interviewing witnesses and others.
