[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Renault Samsung Motors will lift the partial workplace closure starting from the 23rd and resume normal operations. Full normalization of work is expected to take place from the 29th, following the Lunar New Year holiday.
Renault Samsung Motors announced that it will lift the partial workplace closure that began on the 10th as of today. Accordingly, on the 23rd, only integrated daytime shifts for work preparation will be conducted, and from the 29th, after the holiday, normal two-shift operations covering day and night will be implemented.
Previously, labor and management had been engaged in a strike since December 10th last year due to a breakdown in last year's wage and collective bargaining negotiations. However, the strike's momentum weakened significantly as only about 30% of union members participated. Subsequently, the company responded with a partial workplace closure starting on the 10th.
In response, the union declared an unexpected return to work on the 21st, and through subsequent negotiations between labor and management, they agreed to normalize factory operations.
Going forward, labor and management plan to hold intensive wage and collective bargaining negotiations from the 4th to the 7th of next month after conducting renegotiation working-level meetings.
