[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 23rd, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the issuance of a Level 2 travel alert (travel restraint) for Wuhan City, China, and a Level 1 travel alert (travel caution) for the entire Hubei Province excluding Wuhan City.
This travel alert issuance reflects the sharp increase in confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection first reported in Wuhan City last December, as well as measures taken by Chinese authorities such as the suspension of flights departing from Wuhan on the 23rd and the halt of public transportation operations within Wuhan City.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged those staying in Wuhan City and Hubei Province to pay special attention to their personal safety. Furthermore, it emphasized that those planning to travel to the region should carefully reconsider the necessity of their trip.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely monitor the health situation in Wuhan City and Hubei Province and review the need for further adjustments to the travel alerts.
