[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Lee In-young, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 23rd, "Bad politics that make politics a subject of public ridicule and insult the president with violent slander can never win the hearts of our people." He was targeting Hwang Kyo-ahn, the leader of the Liberty Korea Party, who criticized President Moon Jae-in at a New Year's press conference the day before.

At the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Lee said, "Yesterday's New Year's press conference was filled with violent slander and defamation against the government to the extent that it made me doubt whether it was the words of the leader of the main opposition party."

He pointed out, "The part where they directly attacked President Moon Jae-in, saying he butchered the country, was like that," adding, "There was no sign of even the minimum respect or courtesy toward the president."

Floor Leader Lee said, "It was indistinguishable from the sharp sentiments of the Taegeukgi Unit," and "I earnestly appeal for the Liberty Korea Party to come onto the path of political normalization."

Regarding the novel coronavirus, called 'Wuhan pneumonia,' Floor Leader Lee emphasized, "We must not repeat the mistakes of the past Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) incident," and "We need to prepare for Wuhan pneumonia more seriously than for SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)."

He also mentioned small business owners, micro self-employed, youth, and displaced persons, saying, "The Democratic Party will spend the Lunar New Year holiday listening to public sentiment with a humbler attitude."
