How to Use the 2021 CSAT Practice Tests for Preparation? The Right Choice of Re-study Academies

How to Use the 2021 CSAT Practice Tests for Preparation? The Right Choice of Re-study Academies

For students preparing for college entrance exams, proactively understanding the admission schedule is an essential condition for effective planning. Since major schedules are planned almost every month, meticulous planning is necessary to minimize wasted time. From the ‘Preliminary Learning Impact Assessment Report’ released by universities at the end of March to university-hosted information sessions held right before application submissions, all available means must be utilized to secure an advantageous position in college admissions. Those aiming for regular admissions should continuously work on improving their weaknesses and assess their standing through mock exams or academic evaluations.

‘Focus on Mock Exams’ for Regular Admissions... ‘Gauge Your Position and the Difficulty of the CSAT’

In the case of regular admissions, unlike early admissions, diverse information based on the target is not required because all examinees take the same CSAT. All questions from previous CSATs have been disclosed, and numerous textbooks similar in format to the CSAT are available on the market. This means there is no particular difficulty in preparing for the exam itself.

However, opportunities to accurately assess one’s position among all students and consider possible universities to apply to are limited. These are mainly the June and September CSAT mock exams (Mopyeong) conducted by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation and the joint academic evaluations (Hakpyeong) organized by metropolitan and provincial education offices. Students must contemplate their choice of universities until the very end based on the overall level of their recorded scores.

Mopyeong also serves as a ‘barometer’ to predict the difficulty of the CSAT. The Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation adjusts the difficulty of the CSAT based on the results of the June and September mock exams each year. Students can anticipate the trends and difficulty of this year’s CSAT by solving the mock exam questions. Last year, there was heightened interest in the Korean language section, which was known for its ‘historically high difficulty’ in the 2019 academic year. The highest standard score in the June mock exam last year was 144 points, slightly lower than the 150 points of the 2019 CSAT, and it dropped further to 139 points in the September mock exam. Generally, a higher highest standard score is considered to indicate greater discrimination, so this suggests a somewhat reduced difficulty. Through the mock exams, the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation effectively signaled its intention to lower the extremely high difficulty of the Korean language section seen in the 2019 CSAT.

Students should be aware that there are changes in the scope of this year’s CSAT. Notably, changes in mathematics stand out. For Mathematics Type A, questions will be drawn from ‘Mathematics I’, ‘Calculus’, and ‘Probability and Statistics’, excluding ‘Geometry and Vectors’. For Mathematics Type B, ‘Limits of Sequences’ and ‘Partition/Distribution’ are excluded, while ‘Exponential and Logarithmic Functions’ and ‘Trigonometric Functions’ from Mathematics II are included. Questions will be drawn from ‘Mathematics I’, ‘Mathematics II’, and ‘Probability and Statistics’. The addition of the trigonometric functions section to Mathematics Type B, taken by liberal arts students, is analyzed to increase the learning burden. The Korean language section covers speech and writing, language (Language and Media), reading, and literature. The ‘Language and Media’ subject, newly introduced in the 2015 revised curriculum, separates language?which corresponds to grammar in the existing CSAT?from other areas, so there is little difference from the current scope.

Choosing the Right Re-study Academy through ‘Direct Visits’ and Consultations

For students who have decided to make a fresh leap by dedicating themselves once again, it is advantageous not to be swayed by flashy academy websites but to carefully analyze the aforementioned factors and select an academy that can devise a plan suited to them. It is also very important to visit the chosen academy in person, have direct consultations, and thoroughly check the facilities. To win in the fierce competition of college admissions, it is best to hurry as soon as possible through the proper selection of a re-study academy.

Life can be about timing. It is necessary to firmly grasp that timing and consider ways to create a more detailed strategy appropriate for the period. Cheongpyeong Hansem Dormitory Academy for boys and Hansem Girls Dormitory Academy for girls are currently recruiting students for the 2021 CSAT re-study advanced classes and are preparing to start regular classes on February 16. The advantage of operating separate campuses for boys and girls is something everyone can appreciate. The best instructors and management team, capable of providing what students need in a timely manner, will create the best strategies.

Hansem Academy boasts several features. Star instructors from EBS, Etoos, Megastudy, and Daesung Academy teach weekly. Students can see instructors who were previously only available through online lectures in person, and the lectures by skilled full-time instructors along with Hansem’s differentiated management system are the academy’s pride. Due to higher interest than in previous years, early closure is possible, so prompt inquiries are recommended. Detailed recruitment guidelines can be found on the academy’s website or by contacting the main phone number.
