Gyeonggi-do to Operate 'Resident Support Councils' in 14 Housing Sites This Year

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will operate the 'Resident Support Council' this year in 14 housing development districts within the province to resolve inconveniences faced by residents.

The Resident Support Council will be operated in a total of 14 districts, including Uijeongbu Gosan District and Paju Unjeong 3 District, which are moving in for the first time this year, as well as Namyangju Jingeon and Jigeum Districts, where initial move-in began within the last three years.

The Resident Support Council is composed of Gyeonggi Province as the main body, resident representatives, relevant cities and counties, project implementers, and related organizations. The council is a consultative body that listens to and discusses solutions for residents' inconveniences related to infrastructure and public facilities such as transportation, construction, and environment, targeting districts within three years from the initial move-in of apartment complexes.

Since 2012, the province has operated Resident Support Councils in a total of 45 housing and public housing districts within the province. Out of 2,515 accumulated resident inconvenience cases, 2,268 have been resolved and 247 are currently being addressed.

Last year, 336 new requests were received from 16 districts, of which 186 were resolved. A major resolution includes the extension and installation of a bicycle path from the district to Tancheon Stream raised by the Resident Support Council of Seongnam Godeung District, which was arranged to allow bicycle traffic through consultation with the project implementer.

Additionally, in Goyang Hyangdong District, in response to requests to install trash bins around bus stops, trash bins were installed at eight stops. In Siheung Janghyeon District, railings and streetlights were installed on the stairs leading from the apartment complex to Neunggok Road, improving the inconvenience.

Kim Joon-tae, Director of the Urban Housing Office of the province, stated, "We are making efforts to resolve inconveniences experienced by residents due to the immaturity of districts in the early stages of housing and public housing developments," adding, "Through the Resident Support Council, we empathize with and communicate about the inconveniences felt by residents and will strive even more to alleviate these inconveniences this year."
