Recruitment of Operators for 'The Village is the School' Project in Dongjak-gu Last year, a world culture experience class held at Noryangjin Village School

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is recruiting operators for the first half of the year for the 'The Village is the School' program to provide various creative experience educational contents to children and adolescents.

'The Village is the School' is a project that establishes a village education system expanded into a place for rest and play through operating village schools utilizing various local resources.

The recruitment targets organizations or individuals located in Dongjak-gu who possess educational content and can secure class locations. The application period is from the 29th of this month to February 5th. However, organizations and individuals who have difficulty securing individual locations can use the dedicated space for 'The Village is the School,' ‘Noryangjin Village School’ (Jangseungbaegi-ro 19-gil 50).

The project operation period is from March 23 to the end of August. One content per organization (or individual) will be selected, providing up to 1.5 million KRW in support for creative experience activities differentiated from existing after-school classes and classes that can enhance the educational capacity of children and adolescents.

The final selected contents will recruit students starting in March, and if the minimum enrollment of 10 or more students is met, a contract will be signed and the course will be opened.

Interested organizations and individuals can download the project plan from the district website, complete it, and submit it via email to the project manager. For more details, contact the Education Policy Division (☏820-1763).

Last year, a total of 36 courses were opened in the first and second halves of the year, with 432 children and adolescents participating in village after-school classes.

The district completed the design competition last December to transform an abandoned underground bunker in Noryangjin Neighborhood Park, Daebang-dong, into an indoor climbing gym, ICT sports room, makerspace, and other education, play, and community hubs for youth, aiming to open it in June next year.

Yoon So-yeon, head of the Education Policy Division, said, “As a result of five years of cooperation among the private sector, government, and academia to promote innovative education projects, the educational competitiveness of the region has been significantly strengthened,” adding, “We will continue to expand local community education and care functions to create an educational environment that parents can trust.”
