Encouraging Visit to the West Sea Marine Special Rescue Unit

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Moon Seong-hyeok, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, visited the Mokpo area on the 22nd to inspect the livelihood sites ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The visit was accompanied by Kim Hak-gi, Head of the West Sea Fisheries Management Unit, Jang Gwi-pyo, Director of the Mokpo Regional Oceans and Fisheries Office, and Kim Jun-seok, Director of the Shipping and Logistics Bureau.
First, Minister Moon visited the West Sea Marine Special Rescue Unit of the Korea Coast Guard to check the rescue preparedness for marine safety accidents during the Lunar New Year holiday and observed an overturned vessel life-saving drill.
Minister Moon expressed gratitude to the on-site personnel and urged, “Please respond thoroughly to accidents so that the public can have a safe Lunar New Year holiday.”
Next, Minister Moon visited the child protection facility ‘Mokpo Gongsangwon’ to encourage the resident children and staff and delivered consolation money.
Guided by Jeong Ae-ra, Director of Gongsangwon, Minister Moon toured the Yun Chi-ho and Yun Hak-ja Memorial Hall and said, “I was deeply impressed by the background of Gongsangwon’s establishment and the benevolent spirit of Mr. Yun Chi-ho and Mrs. Yun Hak-ja,” adding, “Here, I saw the vast love like the sea. Let us move forward toward the future with the spirit of coexistence.” He left these words in the guestbook.
He also visited the Mokpo Coastal Passenger Terminal to check the passenger ship operation status and the ‘Special Coastal Passenger Ship Transport Safety Measures’ for the Lunar New Year holiday and encouraged the officials.
At this occasion, Minister Moon said, “Mokpo is the place with the highest number of passenger ship users, and a concentration of users is expected during the Lunar New Year,” and urged, “Please ensure flawless special transport so that the terminal and passenger ships can be used safely and conveniently.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is releasing government stockpiled seafood products for price stabilization of Lunar New Year seasonal goods and is also conducting intensive inspections on seafood origin labeling to ensure food safety.
