[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A $3 million (approximately 3.5 billion KRW) bounty has been placed on the neck of U.S. President Donald Trump. An Iranian politician has promised to reward anyone who eliminates President Trump.
On the 21st (local time), according to Al Jazeera, Ahmad Hamzeh, a member of the Iranian parliament, vowed revenge for Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and announced a bounty on President Trump.
According to the Iranian semi-official news agency ISNA, Hamzeh said in the Iranian parliament, "Anyone who kills President Trump will be given $3 million." Hamzeh is a parliamentarian representing the southeastern region of Kerman, Iran. Kerman is Soleimani's hometown and the place where his body was laid to rest.
It is not known whether Hamzeh's bounty statement reflects only his personal opinion or the intentions of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
In addition, Hamzeh emphasized the necessity of nuclear armament.
He argued, "If Iran had nuclear weapons, it could have protected itself from threats," and added, "The issue of producing missiles capable of launching non-conventional warheads over long distances should also be put on the agenda."
Since the U.S. military killed Commander Soleimani using a drone at Baghdad Airport in Iraq, tensions between the U.S. and Iran have escalated. Ultimately, Iran announced that it would no longer comply with uranium enrichment regulations agreed upon in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA - Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).
