Gyeonggi-do Supports 'Eoyeok Dowoomi' Assistance Program

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is launching a 'Fishing Assistant' support project.

The Fishing Assistant support project provides wage support for substitute labor to fishermen who have difficulty engaging in fishing activities. Last year, the province supported 100 days of fishing assistants for 3 fishermen. This year, it will support 200 days annually.

The Gyeonggi Marine and Fisheries Resources Research Institute announced on the 22nd that it is accepting applications for the 'Fishing Assistant Support Project' so that fishermen in the province can continue their livelihood fishing activities even if a fishing gap occurs due to accidents or illness.

The support targets are ▲ fishermen who have been diagnosed for more than one week and require recuperation or have been hospitalized for more than 3 days ▲ pregnant fishermen and those within 3 months after childbirth ▲ fishermen diagnosed with one of the four major severe diseases such as cancer, heart disease (excluding hypertension), cerebrovascular disease, or rare incurable diseases within the last 3 years.

The wage support amount is based on a daily rate of 100,000 KRW, with 80,000 KRW supported (20,000 KRW borne by the fishing household). Support is provided up to 30 days per household annually, and up to 60 days annually for pregnant women and those with the four major severe diseases.

Kang Byung-eon, director of the Gyeonggi Marine and Fisheries Resources Research Institute, said, "We hope the Fishing Assistant support project will provide practical help to fishermen facing difficulties due to accidents and other reasons," adding, "We plan to continue various projects to support fishermen in the future."
