Turkish Energy Minister: "Suspending Nuclear Power Plant Construction Cooperation with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Fatih Donmez, Turkey's Minister of Energy, announced on the 21st (local time) in an interview with Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency that Turkey will halt cooperation with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries regarding the second nuclear power plant project underway in northern Turkey.


According to the report, Minister Donmez stated in an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, "The feasibility study results from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries did not meet expectations in terms of budget and schedule." He added, "We may discuss the project with other nuclear power plant constructors."


Meanwhile, the project Turkey is promoting involves constructing four nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 4,500 MW in Sinop Province in the north. After competition, a consortium consisting of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and French companies was selected as the project operator.
