[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance Lottery Commission, and the Korea Student Aid Foundation will sign a contribution agreement on the 22nd at the Korea Press Center in Seoul to successfully promote the Lottery Fund Dream Ladder Scholarship Project.
This agreement includes the Ministry of Strategy and Finance Lottery Commission contributing 350 billion KRW as a principal-guaranteed fund for the operation of the scholarship project, enabling outstanding low-income middle and high school students to nurture their dreams and potential without worries. The Lottery Commission will contribute 87.5 billion KRW annually for four years starting this year, and the Korea Student Aid Foundation will operate the project using the interest income from this principal and additional project expenses.
The Lottery Fund Dream Ladder Scholarship Project is a national scholarship system that selects low-income middle and high school students with potential and capabilities and supports them with scholarships through to the university level, unlike existing scholarship projects that supported middle/high school and university stages separately. It provides monthly scholarships, one-on-one mentoring, mentoring camps, career consulting, and other educational programs.
Through this agreement, the Ministry of Education has also established a foundation to stably operate the Lottery Fund Dream Ladder Scholarship Project and expand the number of scholarship recipients.
An official from the Ministry of Education stated, "Starting this year, we will actively promote the scholarship project and strive to ensure fair educational opportunities for more students regardless of their family circumstances or social class."
