Gwangju Nam-gu Launches 'Book Bundle Loan Service'

From the End of Next Month... One Set per Family for 30-Day Rental

Gwangju Nam-gu Launches 'Book Bundle Loan Service'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 21st that starting from the 24th of next month, it will officially launch the ‘Book Bundle Lending Service,’ which lends a complete set of children's books to one household for a month to reduce the burden of purchasing books for families with children in childhood and to encourage the formation of reading habits in children.

Nam-gu plans to invest 5.5 million KRW in book purchase costs to buy 35 sets of children's book collections totaling 500 volumes, recommended by the National Library for Children and Young Adults and related institutions, and place them in the Nam-gu Youth Library.

The book collections to be purchased this time include titles such as Yong Teacher's Noisy Science Classroom, the Treehouse Series, Classical Literature Through History, World Masterpiece Series for Elementary Students, Bear Grylls and Survival, First Steps in Korean History to Make Studying Easier, Amazing Korean Language, and Space Stories Even Aliens Don't Know.

Additionally, collections such as the 100 Things Elementary Students Should Know Series, Youth Stepping Stone Classic Series, Anthony Brown Series, and Children's Career Academy will also be available for borrowing.

Along with this, Nam-gu plans to conduct a user survey in the first half of this year to purchase additional desired book collections.

The ‘Book Bundle Lending Service’ allows any resident holding a Nam-gu Youth Library lending membership card who is eligible to borrow as of the application date to borrow books.

Book lending is limited to one complete set per family within a 30-day period, and once the lending period expires, another book collection can be borrowed for 30 days.

A Nam-gu official stated, “We plan to stock complete book sets that are difficult for families to purchase due to the burden of book purchase costs in the library,” and added, “Through the Book Bundle Lending Service, we aim to help parents and children who find it difficult to visit the library develop reading habits more easily.”
