[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] A man in his 60s who swung a blunt weapon at his wife, from whom he was separated, was sentenced to prison.
The Jeonju District Court, 2nd Criminal Division (Chief Judge Park Jeong-dae) announced on the 21st that A (68), who was tried on charges of attempted murder, was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "The defendant admits the crime and shows remorse, but if passersby had not intervened, the victim could have died," and "Considering that the victim actually sustained serious injuries, severe punishment is inevitable."
A was prosecuted for repeatedly striking the head of his wife B (64), from whom he was separated, with a blunt weapon on a residential street in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do, at 9:28 p.m. on July 9 last year.
On the day of the incident, it was investigated that A secretly entered B's residence. It was confirmed that A followed B, who was fleeing from him, and assaulted her.
The police responded to a report from a delivery worker who witnessed the crime and arrested A at the scene.
It was investigated that A committed the crime after witnessing B getting into a taxi with another man the day before and suspecting infidelity.
