[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 21st that it will support up to 5 million KRW for the replacement costs of old water pipes inside houses.

The support amount covers up to 80% of the total construction cost. For multi-family houses, support is provided differentially based on the number of households, up to a maximum of 5 million KRW, while for apartments and other collective housing, up to 1.4 million KRW per household is supported. Detached houses can receive up to 1.5 million KRW, the same as before.

Previously, the city replaced old water pipes in 436,000 households, which is 77% of the 565,000 households eligible for replacement in Seoul.

Baek Ho, head of the Seoul Waterworks Headquarters, said, "Some households do not clearly know where the quality of tap water deteriorates, leaving distrust in tap water," and added, "We hope citizens actively participate in the project to replace old water pipes inside houses to supply clean tap water."
