[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Child actress Gu Sa-rang (8) has been embroiled in an animal abuse controversy after showing herself pushing a cat on her YouTube channel. Gu Sa-rang's mother stated that Gu Sa-rang is currently reflecting on her actions. The agency expressed regret as malicious comments (malicious posts) are pouring in against Gu Sa-rang.

On the 16th, Gu Sa-rang uploaded a video on her YouTube channel unboxing a package sent by BTS member Jimin.

In the video, Gu Sa-rang roughly pushed the cat away when it approached while she was opening the box packaging.

Later, when the cat showed interest again and approached the box, Gu Sa-rang lifted the cat and threw it aside, then slapped her own face with her palm. She then grimaced and raised her voice, saying, "Don't touch me."

After the video was released, netizens criticized Gu Sa-rang's behavior as animal abuse.

As the controversy grew, Gu Sa-rang's mother said, "Hello. I am Sa-rang's guardian. This situation seems to have occurred due to our shortcomings. At the time of filming, Sa-rang was a bit happy and in an uplifted mood. Sa-rang is deeply reflecting and will be more careful in the future."

The agency stated that aggressive comments such as malicious posts against Gu Sa-rang are pouring in, raising concerns about child abuse. An agency representative told Maeil Business Newspaper, "(This matter) is regrettable."

The agency representative added, "(Gu Sa-rang) is just nine years old. Harsh expressions and excessive criticism are being directed at such a young child."

They continued, "She is reflecting on her thoughtless actions, and her parents, especially her mother, are very heartbroken. However, the video that has spread was maliciously edited, and the reactions are excessive. The child is unprotected and deeply hurt, which is worrisome."

They also said, "Even though the mother has posted an apology and is making efforts, the uncontrollable public opinion, the issue spreading without verification, and sensational reporting are overwhelming. Above all, the child is very young, which is concerning. We sincerely hope this ends with healthy criticism that does not cross the line."

The agency emphasized 'child abuse' as malicious comments continue to appear through related articles.

The representative added, "Seeing the unbearable malicious comments and relentless aggressive posts, I even thought this might be another form of 'child abuse.' We will do our best to help the child endure the situation as healthily as possible and respond together."

Amid the spreading controversy, the video was deleted from the YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Gu Sa-rang gained attention last year by appearing on stage with BTS at the 'SBS Gayo Daejeon.' Gu Sa-rang is currently appearing on SBS's 'Yorijori Delicious Class.'
