Gwangju University Unveils Emblem and Slogan Commemorating 40th Anniversary of Its Founding

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) has unveiled a commemorative emblem and slogan to mark its 40th anniversary this year.

On the 20th, according to Gwangju University, the new emblem shapes the ‘4’ of the 40th anniversary as a school building and expresses the meaning of a new takeoff through an arrow.

The slogan ‘40 Years of Talent Development! Gathering Dreams Toward the Future!’ embodies Gwangju University’s commitment to nurturing talents who will lead a new future, having steadily cultivated talents in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions for 40 years.

Gwangju University will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Hosim Foundation and the 40th anniversary of the school’s establishment on May 13.

It started in 1980 as Gwangju Gyeongsang Junior College, was promoted to a regular four-year university in 1984, reorganized into a comprehensive university in 1990, and transitioned from an industrial university system to a general university in 2004.

In particular, it has achieved excellent results, such as being selected as a university strong in employment among 224 four-year universities nationwide in the ‘2019 Youth Dream University’ evaluation hosted and organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

Also, it has shown remarkable growth by being selected as an autonomous improvement university with the highest grade in the Ministry of Education’s basic university competency diagnosis evaluation, entering the second phase of the Social Customized Industry-Academic Cooperation Leading University (LINC+) fostering project, and being the only university in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions selected as a Content One Campus, accelerating the cultivation of creative and convergence talents.

Kim Hyukjong, president of Gwangju University, said, “The reason Gwangju University has grown into a prestigious regional university is because of alumni who have raised the honor of their alma mater and served as role models for juniors,” adding, “This year, marking the 50th anniversary of the Hosim Foundation and the 40th anniversary of the school’s establishment, we will devote ourselves to the development of the university with the determination of a second founding.”

Meanwhile, Gwangju University is planning various events such as a commemorative Daedongje festival, alumni relay special lectures, concerts, and exhibitions to celebrate its 40th anniversary. It is also preparing diverse events with local residents through the 40th anniversary event expressing gratitude to the region and the ‘Sharing Love’ charity meal truck.
