Samsung Electronics Executive Personnel Changes... '50s Division Heads' Forward Deployment (Comprehensive) Samsung Electronics.


[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Samsung Electronics announced its 2020 regular executive promotions on the 20th, including the promotion of 4 presidents and the reassignment of 5 executives, totaling 9 personnel changes.


The promoted presidents are Jeon Kyung-hoon, Head of the Network Business Division in the IM Division; Hwang Sung-woo, Head of the Advanced Institute of Technology; Choi Yoon-ho, Head of the Management Support Office; and Park Hak-gyu, Head of the Management Support Office in the DS Division. The reassigned executives include Vice Chairman Kim Ki-nam, Head of the DS Division; President Kim Hyun-suk, Head of the CE Division; President Ko Dong-jin, Head of the IM Division; President Noh Tae-moon, Head of the Wireless Business Division in the IM Division; and President Lee In-yong, in charge of CR.


President Jeon Kyung-hoon, a former professor of electronic engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology, has served as the leader of the next-generation research team at Samsung Electronics DMC Research Center, development team leader, and head of the Network Business Division. He is a telecommunications expert who led the world's first commercialization of 5G (5th generation mobile communications). Since his appointment as head of the Network Business Division at the end of 2018, President Jeon has strengthened business competitiveness, and through this promotion, it is expected that he will lay the foundation for advancing this core business.


President Hwang Sung-woo, who holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton University, has served as head of the Nano Electronics Lab and director of the Device & Systems Research Center at Samsung Electronics Advanced Institute of Technology. Since November 2017, he has been serving as the deputy head of the Advanced Institute of Technology. He is recognized for contributing to the discovery of future new technologies and enhancing the R&D capabilities of Samsung's electronics affiliates. With this promotion, he is expected to lead the strengthening of next-generation R&D competitiveness as the head of the Advanced Institute of Technology.


President Choi Yoon-ho is a financial management expert who has worked in Samsung Electronics' Suwon accounting team, managed the UK branch, led the Europe management support team, served as an executive in charge of business support, and headed the wireless business support team. With this promotion, he will serve as Samsung Electronics' Chief Financial Officer (CFO), managing stable global operations.


President Park Hak-gyu is a financial expert who has worked in Samsung Electronics' overseas management group, managed the Mexico branch, led the VD Business Support Group, headed the wireless business support team, and overseen SDS business operations. With this promotion, he will move to the position of Head of the Management Support Office in the DS Division, expected to strengthen the semiconductor business's fundamentals and demonstrate risk management capabilities.


President Noh Tae-moon is a smartphone development expert who led the development of the Galaxy series and created the Galaxy legend. He served as head of the wireless business development office and contributed to strengthening the global competitiveness of the mobile business based on technological leadership. As a young leader in his early 50s, he is expected to propose innovative strategies and inject new vitality into the organization amid intensifying competition in the smartphone market.


President Lee In-yong, a former broadcaster, has served as head of the Communication Team at Samsung Future Strategy Office and Samsung Electronics. Since November 2017, he has overseen social contribution activities. Based on his broad network and communication skills, he is expected to actively engage in internal and external communication as the executive in charge of CR.


Samsung Electronics stated, "This executive promotion promotes vice presidents who contributed to new growth businesses and core technology development to president positions, firmly establishing our commitment to leading future growth, while implementing a performance-based personnel system."


Additionally, the company said, "We assigned division heads to young presidents in their early 50s to invigorate the organization and continuously strengthen technology-based market leadership. We also emphasized broad management experience and strategic business capabilities to proactively respond to the uncertain global business environment."
