Fifty-Year-Old Uncle Sentenced to 8 Years for Sexually Assaulting Teenage Niece

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jucheol In] A man in his 50s, the maternal uncle, was sentenced to 8 years in prison for sexually assaulting his teenage niece.

The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 11 (Chief Judge Park Ju-young) announced on the 20th that it delivered this verdict to A (54), who was tried on charges including violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

The court also ordered A to complete an 80-hour sexual violence treatment program and imposed a 10-year employment restriction at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled.

A was indicted on charges of sexually assaulting his niece B, who was under 13 years old at the time in 2018, twice and forcibly molesting her five times.

He was also charged with abusive behavior causing sexual humiliation by sending text messages expressing a desire to have sexual relations after B, who lived near his house, moved to another area.

The court stated, "Considering the defendant’s method and frequency of repeatedly molesting and sexually assaulting the young niece victim, the victim’s age and circumstances, and the relationship between the defendant and the victim, the guilt is severe and the blameworthiness is high. Although the victim likely suffered unforgettable mental shock and pain, the defendant has not been forgiven by the victim, and the victim’s parents have petitioned for strict punishment against the defendant," explaining the sentencing rationale.
