[Incheon=Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Former Bareunmirae Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo stated on the 19th, "I will create a party that moves beyond factional politics and realizes practical centrist politics."

At a press conference held that day at Incheon International Airport, former lawmaker Ahn said, "Practicality means rejecting an obsession with idealistic ideas and focusing on actually solving problems and changing the world."

Ahn emphasized, "The era when the government decides everything for the nation and the people follow is over. Now, the government should not pull the cart from the front but play a role in pushing it from behind."

He added, "I will take the lead in correcting the current government's wrong policies and stopping the reckless operation of state affairs," and stated, "We must prevent the emergence of fake democracy and the privatization of power."

He continued, "I will devote all my will and capabilities to creating a fair and safe society," adding, "I will find and eliminate unfair rules and lay the foundation again for the younger generation."

Former lawmaker Ahn said, "I founded the Bareunmirae Party with the belief that harmony between Yeongnam and Honam regions and national unity are necessary for the future of the Republic of Korea, but during the merger process, I did not fully understand the feelings of those who supported the People's Party. They must have been very disappointed. Although late, I want to express my apologies," and added, "It is also my responsibility that the Bareunmirae Party is in a difficult situation."

Ahn said, "I will visit many people. It may be a difficult and lonely path," and added, "However, I will deeply hold in my heart the people's wish who called me seven years ago and will not lose my original intention."

Regarding his candidacy for next year's general election, Ahn said, "I will not run," and stated, "I came to earnestly say that Korea must change, and my goal is for as many people as possible who can do such things in the next National Assembly to enter."

Regarding the Innovation Integration Promotion Committee, which advocates centrist and conservative integration, Ahn said, "I am not interested," and added, "The opposition also needs innovative change. Going into a 1:1 confrontation based on factional rivalry is actually what the government and ruling party want."
