According to major foreign media on the 17th (local time), the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is reviewing petitions requesting a formal investigation and recall after conducting a preliminary investigation into Tesla's sudden acceleration incidents.
According to the investigation and recall petitions partially disclosed by NHTSA, 127 complaints of sudden unintended acceleration by Tesla drivers have been submitted. These incidents resulted in 110 collisions and 52 injuries. The drivers who filed complaints claimed they experienced sudden acceleration while parking, driving, or using the autonomous driving feature.
The models for which the petitioners are requesting a formal investigation and recall include Tesla Model S from 2012 to 2019, Tesla Model X from 2016 to 2019, and Tesla Model 3 from 2018 to 2019, totaling approximately 500,000 vehicles.
