[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Mokpo City (Mayor Kim Jong-sik) announced on the 17th that it held the 'Old Downtown Project Workshop' for two days starting from the 16th.

The workshop, held at the city hall situation room and the Modern History and Culture Street site, was organized to strengthen collaboration and communication among project departments regarding major projects planned in the old downtown area, to draw a common big picture, and to maximize synergy effects among individual projects under that framework.

This year in Mokpo's old downtown, various projects aimed at enhancing the area's charm and value will be promoted, centered on the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project and the Pilot Project for Revitalizing Modern History and Cultural Spaces, including design roads, signboards, and underground wiring.

The main projects include ▲ Establishment of a comprehensive maintenance plan for the Modern History and Cultural Space ▲ Underground wiring project for the 1897 Open Port Cultural Street ▲ Creation of a safe pedestrian environment on Mokpo Modern Cultural History Street ▲ Feasibility study for traffic environment improvement of the 1897 Open Port Cultural Street ▲ Design and detailed design for street formation of the 1897 Open Port Cultural Street ▲ Signboard improvement project for Mokpo Open Port Cultural Street, among others.

At this workshop, project departments such as the City Construction Division, Urban Regeneration Division, and Urban Cultural Heritage Division, which are promoting six projects, along with consulting firms for each project, gathered to share project details and schedules, discussing ways to secure consistency on a large scale through collaboration and to enhance project effectiveness in depth.

In particular, this meeting was not a mere formal information exchange but a fierce and passionate discussion where all project stakeholders gathered to share the big picture of the old downtown's development direction and future, and to strengthen the connectivity among projects based on mutual understanding of individual projects.

The city plans to continue strengthening collaboration and communication to ensure efficient progress management and increased project effectiveness, as well as to improve the quality of life for local residents and maximize the effects through urban regeneration and cultural heritage utilization.

A Mokpo city official said, "Historically, Mokpo was a domestic hub 100 years ago, and we will create a global modern history and cultural city unique to Mokpo so that it can be developed as an international pedestrian tourism hub space looking forward to the next 100 years."
