Seoul City Conducts Special Inspection of Underground Tunnel Construction Sites, Detects 58 Violations Construction site without safety railings (Provided by Seoul City)

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Seoul City announced on the 17th that it detected 58 violations after conducting special safety inspections at 11 underground tunnel construction sites.

The inspection results revealed that the ordering departments and construction personnel were not properly aware of the relevant improvement measures, leading to inadequate implementation on-site. Therefore, the creation of an integrated manual and guidance and supervision at the sites are necessary.

Besides this, overall compliance with safety, construction, quality, and supervisor work conditions at the construction sites was appropriate. However, 58 safety risk factors were identified, including negligence in worker protection measures at some sites, poor earth anchor construction, improper steel quality management, insufficient on-site inspections by technical support engineers, and negligence in construction machinery management.

Of the violations detected, 54 cases were immediately reinforced through the relevant departments and agencies by taking on-site measures. Additionally, administrative actions such as warnings or penalty points were imposed on the responsible construction personnel depending on the nature of the violations, including safety management negligence and poor construction.

Kim Hak-jin, Director of Safety General Office at Seoul City, stated, "We will continuously conduct inspection activities to eradicate safety neglect practices that threaten construction workers' safety and strive to establish a safety culture."
