"Come Buy Seol Holiday Offerings"... Yeongdeungpo-gu Opens Seol Celebration Market Market held at Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Square

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) will hold the ‘Seolmaji Eoullim Market,’ a market selling local specialties and excellent market products, on the 21st at the district office plaza to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

The Eoullim Market is known for its excellent quality and affordable prices, attracting about 10,000 residents annually. It involves participation from traditional markets within the district and sister cities. Although it is regularly held on the last Tuesday of every month, the January event has been moved up to the 21st to accommodate the Lunar New Year holiday.

This Eoullim Market will feature participation from seven markets within the district: Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market, Yeongil Market, Yeongdeungpo Fruit and Vegetable Market, Daesin Market, Namseoul Shopping Center, Jeil Shopping Center, and Yeongsin Shopping Center.

Visitors can purchase market-specialized products such as various ritual items, fruits, vegetables, Korean traditional sweets (Hangwa), side dishes, stationery and toys, bedding, and hanbok at affordable prices.

Additionally, specialties from 14 cities nationwide that have sister city relationships and administrative support agreements with the district will also be sold. These include radish and cabbage from Yeongam, Jeollanam-do; apples and corn from Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do; meat, chili peppers, and goji berries from Cheongyang, Chungcheongnam-do; blueberry jam and steamed buns from Goseong, Gyeongsangnam-do, all available in one place.

There will also be experiences such as making lucky pouches and money envelopes, and participation in the Year of the Rat event hosted by Lotte Mart Yangpyeong Branch, allowing everyone to feel the warm spirit of the holiday.

Furthermore, traditional markets in the area have prepared abundant discount events and Lunar New Year celebrations.

Specifically, Yeongsin Shopping Center (17th?23rd) will share garaetteok (rice cake sticks); Namseoul Shopping Center (17th) will offer yutnori (traditional Korean board game) experiences and garaetteok sharing; Daerim Central Market (20th?21st) and Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market (20th?23rd) will provide discounts on ritual items and cultural experiences for the holiday; Yeongdeungpo Fruit and Vegetable Market (21st) will offer up to 30% discounts on ritual fruits.

In particular, purchasing the ‘Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificate’ and paying with it will reward the first 50 customers at each market with a 5,000 won Onnuri Gift Certificate.

Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “We have opened the ‘Seolmaji Eoullim Market’ so that residents can purchase excellent products from nationwide specialties and traditional markets at affordable prices in one place. We hope you feel the warm kindness and spirit of the market while selecting ritual items.” For inquiries, contact the Job and Economy Division (☎2670-3429).
