[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Sung-yeol] Popera tenor Lim Hyung-joo revealed that he was placed on the cultural artists' blacklist due to a Sewol ferry memorial song.
On the 13th, Lim Hyung-joo appeared on the SBS plus variety program 'Do You Eat Well?' and stated, "I released the Sewol ferry memorial song 'Becoming a Thousand Winds.' Because of that, I was put on the cultural artists' blacklist."
Lim said, "I still don't understand. I sang in front of eight former and current presidents and even had the nickname 'The President's Man.' But after releasing the Sewol ferry memorial song, all my schedules were canceled."
He explained, "At the time, I was participating in an audition program. However, suddenly, before the main stage recording, the production team told me not to come. It's rare for a cancellation to happen the day before the recording."
He continued, "So I said this doesn't make sense and asked for a reason. Later, the production team told me that the Blue House contacted them saying, 'It would be better to exclude Lim Hyung-joo.'"
He added, "All my scheduled events, including national ceremonies, were canceled. The producers and staff suspected it was because of the memorial song."
Lim expressed his bittersweet feelings, saying, "I was only mourning as a citizen."
