[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is promoting the formation of a pool of lifelong learning program instructors for the 2020 "Neighborhood Learning Center Within One Step" project.

The "Neighborhood Learning Center" project utilizes idle local spaces as learning spaces for residents, establishing a neighborhood-level lifelong learning center system where residents can receive lifelong education close to home.

There are no restrictions by field for this instructor pool recruitment. The program proposals submitted to the project operation committee will be reviewed to ensure they align with the operation direction and purpose of the Neighborhood Learning Center project, and instructors will be assigned according to the characteristics and demand of each neighborhood. For registration methods for the Neighborhood Learning Center instructor pool, please refer to the Jungnang-gu Lifelong Learning Center website (http://lifelong.jungnang.go.kr/).

Jungnang-gu was selected in March last year for the 2019 "Neighborhood Learning Center Within One Step" project hosted by the Seoul Lifelong Education Promotion Institute, designating and operating seven Neighborhood Learning Centers: Byeolbyeol Space, Chaekmaru, Chaekulteo, ㅎㅎㅎ, Baekhak, Jarak, and Choroksangsang.

The Neighborhood Learning Centers received great responses from residents by operating a total of 112 programs tailored to each neighborhood's characteristics, such as "Happy Because You Are Here" for elderly living alone and "Healing the Mind with Picture Books" for multicultural children.

Additionally, 2,441 local residents, including students, participated in learning practice activities conducted after the education. Learning practice activities are initiatives planned by students who voluntarily share the content they learned with the local community after the education. For example, students who took the upcycling popup class at Chaekmaru Neighborhood Learning Center conducted experiential classes for infants and children.

Also, students of the reminiscence healing program at ㅎㅎㅎ Neighborhood Learning Center held a "Bibimbap Day" event where they invited neighbors to share food together. This shows that education does not end with just learning but that the knowledge gained at the Neighborhood Learning Centers spreads throughout the local community, which is a significant achievement for lifelong education in Jungnang-gu.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu stated, "We aim to open one Neighborhood Learning Center in each dong by 2022 so that all residents can enjoy lifelong learning opportunities," and added, "This year as well, we will strive to operate lifelong learning programs across various fields such as humanities, general knowledge, crafts, and arts so that residents can learn, share, and grow together."
