[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 14th that Lee Do-hoon, Director General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, will visit Washington DC, USA from the 15th to the 18th to hold consultations with Steve Biegun, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and Special Representative for North Korea.


The two chief representatives plan to share assessments of the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and discuss cooperation measures for substantial progress toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula through the first Korea-U.S. consultations held this year. Previously, the Korea-U.S. chief nuclear envoys held a telephone consultation immediately after the report on the plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea on the 1st.


Additionally, Director General Lee will take this opportunity during his visit to meet with other U.S. administration officials and will attend the inauguration ceremony of Deputy Secretary Biegun scheduled for the 17th, upon Biegun's invitation.
