Namyangju Comprehensive Filming Studio, Back as a Workplace for Filmmakers...

The Namyangju Comprehensive Film Studio, which had been temporarily closed, is reopening.

The Korean Film Council and Booyoung Housing announced on the 9th that they signed a business agreement to revitalize the operation of Namyangju Comprehensive Film Studio and promote the Korean film industry. According to the agreement, Booyoung will continue to operate Namyangju Comprehensive Film Studio as a film shooting studio. They are also exploring ways to utilize it as a cultural space. Existing viewing and experience facilities will be renovated. However, the studio usage fees, which were low due to public institution management, are expected to increase.

The Korean Film Council will transfer operational know-how for the time being. An official stated, "We will complete the handover by the 10th of next month and step back from direct operation." He added, "Even after that, if Booyoung requests, we plan to send related experts to assist with efficient operation."

Booyoung had been considering how to utilize the studio site but could not find any alternative. This area is included in the Paldang water source protection zone, where apartment construction and various development activities are strictly restricted. There are concerns that filming might face difficulties in the future, so they decided to maintain the existing utilization plan.

Namyangju Film Studio is the largest film production facility in Korea, with a site area of 1,336,409㎡, outdoor film sets, six indoor shooting studios, recording rooms, and various production equipment. It opened in 1997 and has played a pivotal role in Korean film production. A total of 786 films and 553 dramas have been shot here.

When the Korean Film Council relocated to Busan, it sold the studio to Booyoung Housing in 2016. After closing the viewing and experience facilities in May 2018, the studio operation was also suspended last October following the film "Josanjeobo." The ownership transfer was completed in December.
