[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The Korea Economic Research Institute and the Korean Accounting Association announced on the 9th that they will jointly hold a seminar titled "Exploring New Accounting Treatments for Treasury Stock and Dividends" at 2 p.m. on the 13th at the Federation of Korean Industries Conference Center in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
The seminar is being held to explore improvements in related accounting treatments amid growing attention to dividends and treasury stock as means of shareholder returns and increasing social pressure on these issues. Based on problems that may arise from existing accounting methods, ways to more accurately reflect the scale of profits related to corporate dividend and treasury stock treatments will be discussed.
The seminar will proceed with presentations and a comprehensive discussion. First, Professor Intae Hwang of the Department of Business Administration at Chung-Ang University will present on improving accounting treatments for treasury stock. Following this, the comprehensive discussion will be chaired by Professor Sungkyu Son of Yonsei University’s Business School, with panelists including Professor Junseon Choi, Emeritus Professor at Sungkyunkwan University Law School, Professor Minseop Song of Sogang University Business School, Standing Commissioner Sehwahn Park of the Korean Accounting Standards Board, and Kyungjin Kang, Accounting System Team Leader at the Korea Listed Companies Association.
