Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station Operates Reward System for Reporting Illegal Fire Facility Activities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station (Chief Moon Gisik) announced on the 9th that it will operate a year-round reward system for reporting illegal acts related to fire facilities to promote safety culture and raise safety awareness among stakeholders.

The reporting targets are ‘cultural and assembly facilities,’ ‘sales facilities,’ ‘transportation facilities,’ ‘accommodation facilities,’ ‘entertainment facilities,’ and ‘complex buildings.’

▲ Leaving fire pumps in a broken state ▲ Blocking or disabling equipment that constitutes fire facilities to prevent automatic operation ▲ Leaving fire pipes in a state where fire extinguishing water or agents are not discharged ▲ Closing or blocking fire facilities ▲ Closing, damaging, or installing obstacles in corridors, stairs, entrances, or fire doors for fire compartmentation that interfere with evacuation or the function of fire doors are all reportable acts.

Reporting methods require the reporter to be at least 19 years old as of the reporting date under the ‘Resident Registration Act’ and registered as a resident in Gwangju Metropolitan City. The reporter can submit a report with supporting documents via visit, mail, fax, or information communication network to the fire station chief in charge of the reporting target’s jurisdiction.

Upon reporting, if the illegal act is confirmed through on-site verification and review by the reward payment screening committee, the reporter will receive a cash reward (50,000 KRW worth of traditional market Onnuri gift certificates) or reward items worth 50,000 KRW such as fire extinguishers or standalone smoke detectors.
