[Asia Economy Reporter Osangdo] One out of five public institutions, including the government, local governments, and public enterprises, was found to have the lowest level of personal information management, rated as 'Inadequate.'
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 8th that this was revealed as a result of diagnosing the level of personal information management at 778 public institutions nationwide. The diagnosis conducted last year targeted 46 central government ministries, 339 affiliated agencies, 17 metropolitan local governments, 226 basic local governments, and 150 local public enterprises. The evaluation was conducted on 12 indicators across three areas: establishment of management systems, formulation of protection measures, and formulation of breach response measures.
The institutions rated as 'Inadequate' included 157 places (20.2%), such as Ulleung-gun in Gyeongbuk and the Korea Construction Machinery Safety Management Institute. The highest rating, 'Good,' was given to 289 institutions (37.1%), and the 'Average' rating was given to 332 institutions (42.7%).
Among the institutions rated 'Good,' 23 were central government ministries, including the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Among the affiliated agencies of central ministries, 149 institutions such as the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and the Korea Water Resources Corporation received the 'Good' rating. Additionally, among metropolitan local governments, four places including Busan City and Jeonnam Province were rated 'Good'; among basic local governments, 59 places including Suseong-gu in Daegu City; and among local public enterprises, 54 places including the Gyeongsangbuk-do Development Corporation and Jungnang-gu Facilities Management Corporation were evaluated as 'Good.'
The diagnosis of personal information management levels in public institutions is a system that annually checks the overall personal information management status of public institutions through expert evaluation.
The average score for all institutions evaluated this time was 80.90 points, with central government ministries scoring the highest at 85.84 points, and metropolitan local governments scoring the lowest at 78.44 points.
