[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that the 'Jeonnam Talent Academy' with the world-renowned philosopher and thinker Kim Yong-ok, also known as Dool, will be held at Haenam Gahaksan Natural Recreation Forest for 4 nights and 5 days starting from the 6th.

The Jeonnam Talent Academy is a program attracting attention where scholars in the humanities, including Dool Kim Yong-ok, meet the younger generation of Jeonnam to explore the lives and thoughts of ancient sages and cultivate talents with humanities literacy through discussions.

Humanities and philosophy education covering the history of human civilization, Chinese characters, the life and thoughts of Confucius, etc., will be conducted, along with on-site visits to historical and cultural sites in the province to provide time for understanding Jeonnam accurately.

This humanities and philosophy program, which cannot be encountered in exam-oriented education, is promoted as part of Jeonnam Province's new millennium talent development project.

In particular, it is known that Dool has a special affection for Haenam, as his great-grandfather Kim Jung-hyun and grandfather Kim Young-hak, who served as Haenam magistrates, lived in Haenam for a long time.

In July last year, the Haewoon (the pen name of great-grandfather Kim Jung-hyun) Memorial Association was formed, and with Dool's return to his hometown, the construction of Haeun Seowon, which will teach the spirit of Honam to future generations, is being promoted.

A Haenam-gun official said, "It is very meaningful that a humanities program for nurturing talents in Jeonnam is being operated in Haenam, where there is a special connection with Dool," and added, "We hope that young people will lead the future growth of our region through this education and grow into talents with humanities literacy."

Meanwhile, Gahaksan Natural Recreation Forest, opened in 1999, is a public recreation forest located on the ridge of Heukseoksan (650m above sea level) in Gyegok-myeon, the gateway to Haenam. It is a place where the striking rock formations that appear black after rain harmonize with oak and Korean hornbeam trees, boasting a spectacular view.
