On the 1st, the local Thai media outlet Bangkok Post reported that a British man, A (51), died due to an explosion of fireworks he was trying to light to celebrate the New Year. Thai police stated that A suffered severe injuries to his face and body in front of a pub after midnight and lost his life.

According to eyewitnesses, A tried twice to light fireworks on the street with a friend to celebrate the New Year but failed. However, smoke soon emerged from the fireworks, followed by an explosion. Thai police found a firework tube at the accident scene and plan to secure it as evidence for investigation.
