Scooping Up Cash In Korea... "1 Billion Won Salary, 2.14 Billion Won Stock Awards" Shocking Perks

OpenAI research roles pay up to 1 billion won a year
Hired over 60 overseas workers from October to December
More than 4,000 employees... 2.14 billion won in stock compensation

The base salary for research positions at OpenAI has been found to reach up to around 1 billion won. Compensation for key talent is being assessed as among the highest in the industry. In addition, contrary to its stated policy of slowing hiring, the company appears to be continuing to recruit overseas talent.

On February 24 (local time), U.S. business outlet Business Insider reported, citing documents submitted to the U.S. federal government, that "OpenAI is paying top-of-the-industry base salaries for key roles and has continued to hire overseas workers in recent quarters."

Despite saying it would slow hiring, recruitment of AI talent continues

Earlier this year, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said he would significantly slow the pace of hiring in order to avoid the kind of large-scale layoffs that rocked the tech industry.

However, according to federal government documents, OpenAI is still hiring overseas personnel. Most recently, it recruited Peter Steinberger, known as a developer of OpenClaw, which is being interpreted as evidence that competition to secure artificial intelligence (AI) talent is continuing.

In the most recent quarter, from October to December last year, OpenAI newly hired more than 60 overseas employees. This is an increase compared with the previous quarter. Hiring continued even though the Donald Trump administration imposed a 100,000 dollar (150 million won) fee on new H-1B visa applications in September last year.
