King Sejong Institute Annual Enrollment Tops 230,000 for First Time...Driven by K-content

The annual number of students at King Sejong Institutes worldwide has surpassed 230,000 for the first time.

The King Sejong Institute Foundation announced on the 25th that the total number of students last year reached 239,020, setting a new all-time record. The figure, which was just over 100,000 in 2020, has more than doubled in five years. After surpassing 200,000 in 2023, it has continued on a steady upward trajectory.

This surge in enrollment has been supported by qualitative improvements in education. In the "Learner Satisfaction Survey" released by the foundation that day, the overall satisfaction score came in at 93.1 points. In particular, students gave high marks to cultural education courses (93.7 points) and facilities (91.8 points).

K-content has played the role of a springboard for beginners in Korean. More than half of the students (53.4%) said that K-pop and Korean dramas sparked their interest in learning Korean.

For many of them, language learning is going beyond a simple hobby and extending into concrete career development. A significant number of students responded that they are benefiting in their local academic majors (46.3%), employment at Korean-affiliated companies (22.4%), and employment in Korea (16.2%).
