Declaration to Bring Back the National Sports Festival After 15 Years
Discussions on Hosting the 2030 National Sports Festival in Gangwon
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jintae) announced that on the 25th, ahead of the opening ceremony of the National Winter Sports Festival, Governor Kim met with Yoo Seungmin, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, to discuss sports-related issues including the bid to host the National Sports Festival.

At the meeting, Governor Kim Jintae said, "This year, the province achieved its first-ever overall victory at the National Winter Para Games, and by hosting both the National Winter Para Games and the National Winter Sports Festival for five consecutive years, it has established itself as the center of winter sports in Korea," adding, "Building on these achievements, we are ushering in a renaissance era for sports in Gangwon."
He went on to say, "Riding this momentum, we hope to secure the bid to host the National Sports Festival in 2030, bringing it back to the province for the first time in 15 years since 2015."
In response, Yoo Seungmin, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, said, "Since the governor has clearly expressed his commitment, we will actively review the matter together with the president of the Gangwon Sports Council," and added, "In addition, regarding the host city of the Winter Sports Festival, we will consider ways to grant separate benefits for bidding to host the Summer National Sports Festival as well."
